This is a classic Kaffe Fassett design from Rowan Magazine 18. I knitted it during 2002. It's more or less in the original colours of Rowan Handknit DK cotton, augmented with Debbie Bliss's similar cotton DK. Since I knitted it Rowan have re-introduced a dark blackberry purple that would have been great to use, but there you go!
It was a pretty easy knit, the Fair Isle just flies along in this yarn, even knitting back-and-forth. Getting the button band neat took a little more work, in the end I didn't cast it off, but sewed the live stitches down on the reverse. I also used a lace (single loop) cast on to give the softest possible edge for the sewn up hems.
It's surprisingly warm, and looks nice with jeans and a purple scarf. Just the thing for going to an outdoor theatre evening in the summer. I've seen a couple of other versions and it does look pretty on all sorts of people.
