Easy come, easy go
I finished the Easy Jacket last weekend in the middle of Saturday night. This was a gift for a friend, whom I was visiting for the weekend. As we were sitting up late with a couple of glasses of wine, I simply handed over the finished garment to her without even a final press - and then couldn't get her to take it off! We did corner her for a picture though. I think this is a classic pattern, it's so easy to wear and I'm pleased with the fit too. She even had the perfect skirt to wear it with.
So, Colinette yarn, Debbie Bliss pattern, Rowan pin - yet another eclectic project from Sam. I think that's my Colinette phase done for this year.
Next up, from stash, is another baby blanket. The one I knitted last year, for my little boy, was appropriated by his big brother. I wanted to make a "fraternal" blanket using similar colours, but distinctive enough that there would be No Arguing (a faint hope, I'm sure). Well the most fun you can have with a garter stitch blanket has got to be a Log Cabin, after the fantastic Mason-Dixon Knitting book. I've only done enough to introduce all my colours but it's addictive to see it unfolding before my eyes:
I needed eight colours instead of seven, for symmetry, and I've done the centre block in black to give it a focus. It's loosely based on Joseph's blankie from the MDK book. The yarn is Rowan Wool Cotton, knitting up smooth as silk, as always.
Did anyone else look at the yarn that was on special offer in LIDL last week? (I'm afraid you didn't misread, I did say LIDL not Liberty. We are going downmarket here at BD). I despatched my mother to her local branch, so I'm looking forward to seeing what she hauled in. She was a bit baffled when I said I might use it for dishcloths. I'm talking about pure cotton here that knits to a Rowan DK cotton tension, for 65p a ball. That doesn't come up every day!
It might be a yarn desert out here in the sticks but the views do make up for it. This is the last full moon, the night of the eclipse, when all our rivers were in flood. I adore this time of day, when the sky is deep, deep blue but not yet dark.
